Casein Protein Review
Casein protein is the other milk protein. When people typically think of milk protein or even protein for that matter they typically think of whey. Whey protein is the fast absorbing component of milk protein while casein is digested much slower. Casein protein has become extremely popular in the last several years and is typically marketed in meal replacement products or as a protein which can be taken before bed. The slow digestibility of casein makes it ideal for these purposes. In a meal replacement it will keep an individual satisfied for a longer duration as it will take longer to digest. As a night time protein it will digest slowly maintaining a steady flow of amino acids to the muscle during sleep.
For most purposes we recommend taking a product that includes both whey and casein. Whey protein has stronger anabolic properties (tissue building) while casein tends to be more anti catabolic (prevent muscle breakdown). Unless you plan on having multiple containers of different types of protein it is generally more effective and less costly to purchase a blended protein which contains both whey and casein.
